Northern California is rich with chances to throw flies at wild trout. The Shasta-Trinity National Forest holds several Blue Ribbon walk/wade fisheries including the McCloud River, Upper Sacramento River, Pit River, and Hat Creek. Each of these waters offers up unique and beautiful environments to catch wild rainbow and brown trout with a variety of styles. Strip heavy streamers to hungry adult fish, throw dries in pocket water, swing, skate, drift to find the right movement to make a trout eat.

The McCloud River

Known for its famous McCloud Redband Trout. The McCloud river system holds so much more. It’s beauty and wild fish are sought by anglers from around the world.

Upper-Sacramento River

A classic walk/wade river with all the tasty waters: variable runs, deep pools, pocket water, stacked riffles. The Upper-Sac will deliver on a great fishing adventure.

Hat Creek

An easy spring creek loaded with rainbow and brown trout. Hat Creek offers long glassy runs, riffles and structure where fish love to hold and sip stoneflys, caddis, or load up on mayflies.

Pit River

Maybe not quite the lore of the McCloud, but by every right, just as fishy. The same historic fish can be find throughout the Pit River system in a slightly different environment.

Lake McCloud

The resident big browns and hot rainbow trout throughout the lake make for a fun day on the water. Motor up to rushing runs, riffles and sandbars, or drag streamers throughout the lake. A great way to work on your casting in the cool, clear waters.

Lower-Sacramento River

About an hour drive from the McCloud Outpost, it doesn’t get better than a drift down the Lower Sacramento chasing big, strong, wild rainbow trout. Sometimes a drift down river is exactly what the doctor ordered.
